LANGUAGES
The official language is Spanish. In the tourism industry, English, French, Italian and German are also spoken. Part of the local ingenuous population still speaks Mayan.
TAXIS
Taxicabs in Cancun do not have taximeters, so its highly recommended to ask for the fare to your destination before boarding the cab. Fares are set by the taxi union.
TIME ZONE
Six hours earlier than Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Daylight Savings Time begins on the first Sunday in April and ends on the last Sunday in October.
SKIN CARE
Don’t forget to apply sun blocker during your visit to this Caribbean destination. Please use ecologically friendly lotion to avoid harming the area’s coral reef.
ELECTRICITY
The standard is 110 volts. Hotels usually offer voltage converters for 220 volt devices. Some sockets do not accept polarized three prong plugs. It is recommended that you bring your own adapter.
TIPS
One or two dollars per suitcase carried, and 10 or 15% of the total bill in restaurants and bars. Tips may already be included.
CANCUN – HOTEL ZONE BUSES
There are several bus lines that can take you to downtown Cancun and the hotel zone. The current fare is 8.5 pesos and the buses are the R1, R2, R15 & R27.
